Arsenal table bid, submit contract offer to sign 26-year-old goal machine

Arsenal will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Correio da Manha, as relayed by Sport Witness, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a striker. So, the Sporting CP centre-forward has emerged as a target for the North London club.

Arsenal’s decision-makers met Gyokeres’s agent Hasan Çetinkaya when the club’s women’s team faced Barcelona Femini in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final. The Premier League club offered €70 million, plus a target-based fee to Sporting CP. In addition, they presented the player with a contract with €7 million-a-year wages and a signing bonus of €12 million.

Viktor Gyokeres and the journey to becoming a goal machine

Viktor Gyokeres has transformed into a goal machine since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The Swede was already a prolific attacker during his spell with the EFL Championship outfit but has taken his game up several levels in the last two years.

The 26-year-old was exceptional in the 2024/25 season, amassing 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Gyokeres has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe with his exploits for Sporting CP. Arsenal will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

England return on the horizon?

Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres makes sense. The Gunners are combing the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after seeing Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus being wasteful in front of the goal. So, the Sporting CP striker has emerged as a viable target for the North London club.

Recent reports have boosted Arsenal’s prospects, revealing that Gyokeres has played his final game for Sporting CP. The Gunners have now made their move to secure the 26-year-old Swede’s services, offering him a five-year contract with €7 million-a-year wages and a signing bonus of €12 million.

In addition, they have offered €70 million, plus a target-based fee to Sporting CP. However, it is unclear if Arsenal’s proposals will convince Sporting and Gyokeres as they look to expedite the summer move for the Swedish international.
