Liverpool have pulled out of the race to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons this summer, journalist David Hamza has revealed.
The Premier League winners are no longer considering a move for the Dutch ‘superstar’ as they are expected to complete a potential club-record deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Simons was linked with a move to Anfield earlier this month and is believed to be courted by several Premier League and European clubs, including Chelsea.
Hamza claims the 22-year-old is no longer a concrete consideration for Bayern Munich either, and the race for his signature remains wide open – with a potential buyer ‘yet to come forward’.

Xavi Simons in action for RB Leipzig
According to Hamza, Simons wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer and is believed to be valued at around €70m (£58m) by the German club.
Leipzig are reportedly eyeing a quick profit after signing Simons permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January, although Hamza notes his value has ‘plummeted after a mixed season’ in Germany.
Simons, who is under contract until June 2027, has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this term.
Liverpool are now ‘working hard’ to seal a blockbuster summer move for Wirtz, which could cost in excess of €100m (£84m).
The Germany international could soon follow Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, with the Dutch wing-back expected to be announced as the club’s first summer arrival in the coming days.
Liverpool are also working on a deal to bring Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez to Anfield and have reached an agreement over personal terms with the Hungarian starlet.
