In a story fit for the history books, New Bewerley Community School’s football team took on an entirely new challenge—American football—and emerged victorious at the NFL Leeds United Foundation Event held on Tuesday 2 May 2025 at Elland Road.
Despite having never played American football before, the team showcased outstanding athleticism, strategy, and determination. They won every game, securing a semi final spot, then dominated that match to reach the final. Against all odds, they delivered another stellar performance, claiming the championship title in their first-ever experience with the sport.

Their winning streak didn’t stop there. Back on familiar turf, the team faced Ireland Wood Primary School on 21 May in a friendly football match. Despite conceding two goals, they fought back fiercely, securing a 5-2 victory with their captain netting all five goals, a feat made possible by the incredible teamwork and support from his squad.
Coach Driscoll expressed immense pride in her players, saying:
“I couldn’t be prouder of this team. They took on a completely new sport and won it all, then returned to football stronger than ever. Their teamwork and resilience were incredible to witness.”
This remarkable journey proves that sometimes, stepping into the unknown can lead to extraordinary victories. With their recent successes, New Bewerley has shown that determination, unity, and sheer passion can turn any challenge into triumph.
