One name that had previously come up in trade rumors was Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, that scenario now seems increasingly unlikely, as Giannis’ preferences for his next destination have become clearer.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, there’s another superstar with whom both the Spurs and the player reportedly shared mutual interest at this season’s trade deadline.
Charania reports that Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant could be a target for the Spurs in the upcoming season.
"They have a ton of assets," Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show. "They have tradable contracts, the No. 2 and No. 14 picks in this year’s draft, and a bunch of future picks as well. So whether it’s a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo — I think Kevin Durant is another guy to watch."
"There was mutual interest between the Spurs and Kevin Durant at the trade deadline," he added. "I think they’ll be very active in trying to find a wing player who can take them over the top."
Despite turning 37 at the start of next season, Durant is still considered one of the league’s top scorers. In his 17th NBA season, he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, earning his 15th career All-Star selection.
