Amad wanted by Sunderland
Sunderland Stadium of Light
Sunderland have returned to the Premier League after eight long years and one of the big signings they wish to make in the summer is that of Amad Diallo from Manchester United.
Amad had a super successful loan campaign with Sunderland from 2022 to 2023 and The Black Cats want him to be part of their top-tier dream. According to a report by 225Foot, Sunderland are said to be exploring a loan deal but they are also open to signing him on a permanent transfer, should Manchester United decide to part ways with him.
The winger’s impact at Sunderland:
The 22-year-old had a dream loan stint at the club, scoring 14 goals and providing 4 assists in 42 appearances. Even though Sunderland eventually fallen short, he had played a key role in their push for promotion.
Here are some of his numbers from that year:
Championship 22/23 Stats
Games Played 37
Goals 13
Assists 3
Expected Goals(xG) 8.11
Passing Accuracy 86%
Chances Created 40
Will Man United be forced to part ways with Amad?
Manchester United need money to fund their new transfer which is why the club will be forced to sell several of their first-team regulars. Garnacho, Hojlund, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Rashford, Jadon Sancho will all be offloaded in the summer but we don’t think Amad will be on that list.
The Ivorian international struggled to get game time under Erik ten Hag but he’s been one of United’s best players ever since Ruben Amorim took over. This season, he has started in only 20 Premier League matches but still has an xG of 4.68. Amad has scored made 18 goal contributions this campaign and the youngster will be key to the manager’s rebuilding plans.
Amad is an asset to the squad because not only can he play as an attacker but he is equally comfortable playing as a right wing-back.
Amorim is trying to bring in a new right-winger but that does not mean he is ready to lose Amad. The 22-year-old’s contract runs until 2030 and the club is in no hurry to cash in on him. Multiple experts have said that the Man United manager wants players who can fit into his 3-4-2-1 system and Amad is one of them.
He shares a great relationship with the Sunderland management and the fans but it’s nearly impossible to see him return to the Stadium of Light next season.
