Matheus Cunha is closing in on becoming Manchester United's first summer signing
Manchester United are closer than ever to securing the £62.5million signing of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
United have moved quickly to improve Ruben Amorim's team after the club recorded their worst season in 51 years. Cunha was identified as a priority target rapidly and looks set to be the first new face through the door this summer.
Reports on Tuesday indicated that United had opened talks with Wolves to agree a deal and it's been widely reported that the terms of the release clause in Cunha's recently signed contract at Molineux have been met.
Cunha's contract outlines that a transfer fee is paid across three instalments including a first lump sum and two further payments over the next two years. However, United had tested the waters with a proposal to pay the £62.5m release clause over five years.
The Brazilian is now set to undergo a medical after receiving permission from Wolves with the deal accelerating towards completion. And fortunately for United, they have received the biggest sign of approval from the 25-year-old's camp.
Cunha's father, Carmelo, has recently liked Fabrizio Romano's popular 'Here we go!' update of Cunha's move to United on Instagram. It isn't the first time Carmelo has sparked excitement with supporters after liking a comment under one of the forward's posts reading: "Welcome to United," earlier in the season.

After Cunha completes his switch from Wolves, United are expected to push ahead with their interest for a centre-forward. Ipswich Town top-scorer Liam Delap is a strong candidate with his £30m release clause a key factor in the move.
"Without Champions League, we don't need a big squad, we can control the squad in a better way," Amorim said in his pre-match press conference of United's post-season tour against the ASEAN All-Stars.
"Then we have a plan that is to bring some new players, of course. But our big plan is to improve the team that we have, is to improve our academy, because I think that is the future. It was the past, so can be the future.
"It's not going to change so much because we have the financial fair play rules. We are not allowed to do much in this summer, even with Champions League, so we are prepared for that.
"It’s important to stick together. We are going to struggle, it is not going to be everything right away but I have a feeling and I see the team improving and that is the most important thing.”
