Exclusive: Lee Grant makes decision on his Ipswich Town future amid Huddersfield talks

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that Ipswich Town coach Lee Grant has come to a decision on his future after being courted by Huddersfield Town this week.

Having retired as a player in 2022, Grant has carved out a solid reputation for himself as a coach at Ipswich, working closely with Kieran McKenna in the club’s very successful recent period.

With Ipswich heading back down to the Championship for next season, there’s likely to be some rebuilding to be done at Portman Road this summer.

McKenna will have prepared for player departures, but now, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that he will be looking for a new coach, too.

Lee Grant set to take on Huddersfield Town role

Last week, we broke the news that Lee Grant was wanted by Newport County down in League Two, but it was clear at that time that he was happy enough at Ipswich and would not be taking the role.

However, since then, League One side Huddersfield Town have entered the race for his services, and it looks like they’ve won him over.

We can now reveal that talks between the two parties have been very positive, and that Grant has agreed to take over at Huddersfield.

The Terriers have been searching for a new head coach since parting ways with Michael Duff back in March after a dismal run of form left them outside of the League One play-off hunt.

Academy manager and former Huddersfield player Jon Worthington had been in temporary charge for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

Huddersfield Town will fancy their chances in League One in 2025/26

There’s no denying that Huddersfield Town are one of the biggest clubs in League One, and there’s plenty of potential for the Terriers to succeed.

With the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham, and Charlton Athletic all out of the division now, Huddersfield must press on and capitalise on what could be a very good opportunity for a promotion push in 2025/26.

Chairman Kevin Nagle obviously knows as much, hence his tough decision to part ways with Duff when he did.

With Grant coming in and the summer transfer window to improve the playing squad, this is an ideal opportunity for a fresh start for the Terriers.
