Matheus Cunha played his final game for Wolves on Sunday as his transfer to Manchester United inches closer.
After 92 appearances and 33 goals, Cunha said his goodbyes to the Wolves fans at Molineux and sent a message to the supporters on Instagram, thanking them for their support over the years.
Cunha even bought a Rolex watch for Joao Gomes, sending appreciation for his Brazilian teammate with a parting gift ahead of his switch to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old has agreed a five-year contract at Man United, despite interest from clubs who qualified for Europe, including Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.
Although United are in their worst position as a club for decades, Cunha will be motivated to fire them back to their best, with the Red Devils paying him handsomely to do so.

How much Manchester United are paying Matheus Cunha
In January, Cunha signed a new contract at Wolves to protect them from losing their prized asset midway through the season.

It made him the highest-paid player at Molineux, with a reported weekly wage of £120,000, according to the Telegraph, which has since been bumped up to £200,000 a week ahead of his pending transfer to Old Trafford.
How Matheus Cunha’s new wage ranks among Wolves’ highest earners
Matheus Cunha – £200,000
Goncalo Guedes – £90,000
Pablo Sarabia – £90,000
Nelson Semedo – £80,000
Cunha said he wants to level up his career by leaving Wolves to join Man United, but realistically, the Brazilian is taking a huge risk.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
Ruben Amorim’s men just finished 15th in the Premier League table, only ahead of Wolves on goal difference, and they also missed out on the Champions League after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
The only attraction for Cunha to join United currently is the money, and perhaps the motivation behind firing them back into European contention.
What reception Wolves fans will give Cunha on his return
The transfer window isn’t even open yet, but this Cunha saga has been drawn out, with a deal expected to be officially announced next week.
Cunha could have left Wolves a legend, but unfortunately, he jumped at the opportunity to join a sinking ship.
While many realise what an incredible talent he is, Dave Edwards thinks Wolves fans will boo Cunha when he returns to Molineux in 2025/26.
“I am sure he will be on his way, probably to Manchester United,” Edwards said.
“I think he might get a few jeers when he plays against Wolves next season, but while it was his last match in the famous colours – the supporters gave him the appreciation of what his performances have deserved over the last 18 months or so.”
It will be interesting to see what sort of reception he gets but the likelihood is, there will be a few boos after how he’s gone about leaving the club.
