Report: Liverpool now in 'talks' with striker that Arne Slot loves as £83.8m claim made

Liverpool are on the cusp of having one of the biggest transfer windows in their recent history.

The Anfield outfit have already been fairly busy in the market with Arne Slot likely to be looking to get most of his business done as soon as possible.

Many players are expected to depart the Merseyside outfit in the upcoming transfer window, but there are also a handful who seem to be close to joining Liverpool, such as Jeremie Frimpong.

Although a new left-back is likely high on Slot’s priority list, a new number nine is also likely up there, with a new update making Liverpool’s stance much clearer.

Liverpool have had ‘talks’ with Eintracht Frankfurt over the transfer of Hugo Ekitike

A plethora of names have been linked with an Anfield switch already this summer, however, Hugo Ekitike’s name is cropping up rather often.

In fact, the Frankfurt president even admitted that he’d be open to selling the Frenchman, that is, if the right offer came in.

And, as per a new report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg via X, Liverpool are now ‘seriously’ in the race for the former Newcastle target.

The report outlines that ‘talks’ have already taken place between Slot and Ekitike, with both the Dutchman and Richard Hughes ‘keen’ on bringing him in.

Chelsea are the Reds’ biggest rivals for his transfer at the moment, however, Frankfurt have ‘not yet’ received an offer.

The report also outlines that a fee worth around €100 million (£83.8 million) would be required to prise him away from the Bundesliga outfit this summer.

Hugo Ekitike would be a major statement of intent from Liverpool

Since the 2024-25 season ended, Liverpool have already been linked with a handful of superstars who’d improve their team tenfold.

The transfers of Florian Wirtz and Frimpong are the closest to completion and will help fill two areas of priority for Slot this summer.

Ekitike has been in fine form this season and would no doubt turn the Reds’ attack into an even more formidable force to be reckoned with.

Bundesliga 33 15 8

Europa League 12 4 3

DFB Pokal 3 3 1

One of the main stumbling blocks in the deal will no doubt be the £83m+ fee that Frankfurt want to allow the 22-year-old to leave, especially if Wirtz also joins.

This either means that a massive number of players are being sold on, or Slot will have to decide what his priorities are this summer.

There are still plenty of questions that need to be answered before the start of the 2025-26 season, but one thing is for sure: it’s certainly not going to be a dull window for Liverpool’s fans.
