Burnley star on Manchester United’s radar

Ruben Amorim is believed to have held early talks with Manchester United’s recruitment team about squad depth, with goalkeeping one of the key discussion points ahead of pre-season.

The Portuguese boss is eager to stamp his identity on the team, and changes in personnel are expected across several positions – including between the sticks.

Meanwhile, United has reportedly been scouting potential replacements since the end of the Europa League final.

Several candidates have emerged in the last fortnight, with the Red Devils prioritising young, homegrown options to futureproof their squad for the next five years.

And with FFP constraints looming, United’s focus appears to be on high-potential players who can grow with the project rather than instant superstars.

That has led to interest in Burnley and England goalkeeper James Trafford, with GIVEMESPORT reporting that United are seriously considering a summer swoop for the 21-year-old.

James Trafford enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the EFL Championship, recording 29 clean sheets across 45 appearances.

The young stopper conceded just 16 goals across 45 Championship fixtures and played a pivotal role in Burnley’s title chase, missing out to Leeds United on goal difference in the final moments of the season.

Trafford’s rise has not gone unnoticed, as he earned a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, joining the likes of Dean Henderson and Jordan Pickford.

United’s current No.1 Andre Onana has had a season to forget, with a series of high-profile blunders that culminated in his failure to stop Brennan Johnson’s winner in the Europa League final.

According to Opta, Onana holds the worst clean sheet percentage of any Manchester United keeper with 10+ games since 2003, and his save percentage is the second-worst of that group.

With Amorim unconvinced and Onana’s future under threat, the club may be tempted to strike quickly before Trafford’s stock climbs any higher.

He may not be the only new arrival, with fellow English talent Liam Delap also expected to join from Ipswich, signalling a clear shift towards youth under the new regime.
