According to Marca via Sport Witness, Arsenal are leading the race to sign the Argentine forward, who has enjoyed a stellar first season at Atletico Madrid. While the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool are also reportedly keen, it’s Arsenal who are bidding the hardest in an attempt to bring Alvarez back to the Premier League.

Alvarez has been a revelation since joining Atletico from Manchester City, racking up an impressive 36 goal contributions in his debut season. His versatility, work rate, and ability to operate across the front line have made him a coveted target — and it’s no surprise that Mikel Arteta sees him as a major upgrade to Arsenal’s forward options.
While names like Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have been linked to the Gunners, Alvarez arguably offers a more polished and immediate impact — a blend of elite-level finishing and big-game pedigree that Arteta has long sought.

Arsenal’s challenge? Barcelona remain heavily interested, although their ongoing financial constraints could limit their capacity to strike a deal. Liverpool, meanwhile, have reportedly shifted focus toward Florian Wirtz, potentially leaving the Gunners with a clearer path.

Alvarez currently earns €7 million a year at Atletico, with no new deal imminent despite the widespread interest. Atletico are understandably reluctant to part with their star forward — but reports suggest Arsenal’s intent is strong enough to force the Spanish club’s hand.
If the Gunners can present a compelling offer and a clear role for Alvarez at the Emirates, they may well pull off one of the biggest coups of the summer window.
