There’s managerial drama unfolding at Serie A side Atalanta and Newcastle United could be lying in wait to take advantage.
La Dea manager Gian Piero Gasperini could depart the Bergamo club after nine years. He held a key meeting with the upper management and later, AS Roma made an offer to land the Italian and there is the real possibility of a move.
TuttoAtalanta report Gasperini’s future at Atalanta is also tied to the club’s key players – Matteo Retegui, Ademola Lookman and Ederson, and two of those have attracted the interest of Newcastle United.
During the meeting with the club’s management, 67-year-old Gasperini made it clear that he wants to keep the three players unless major offers arrive.
In the meantime, Newcastle United are plotting their moves. They have ‘started preliminary contact’ for Ederson, who also interests Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Brazilian has never expressed the desire to leave but is refusing to renew his contract at Atalanta and this will give the Magpies hope. In the meantime, Newcastle United also have ‘concrete interest’ in Lookman, who had asked for a departure last summer but ended up staying.
The Nigerian has attracted interest from Serie A clubs too.
