Chelsea boss remains coy over£25m deal for Manchester United outcast

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca remains coy on the future of Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho amid the obligation to buy. Chelsea signed Sancho on a loan deal last summer, and his 15th Premier League appearance triggered the obligation to buy.

The London club have to pay between £20m and £25m, or they can pay a £5m clause to reject him. Chelsea will play Real Betis in the Conference League final, and they could make the final decision after the game.

Irrespective of what Chelsea decides, United have maintained their position to let their on-loan players leave permanently during the summer. The Red Devils will use the fund to bolster the limited transfer budget they are allowed during the upcoming window.

Speaking to the media (h/t BBC), Maresca revealed that Chelsea have not decided on the future of United outcast Sancho. He said:

“In the next 24 or 48 hours, we will start to talk about the future, but no decision has been made on Jadon or any other player”.

United need to sell their surplus players before they can back Ruben Amorim with a sufficient budget during the summer. At the same time, the operation is a race against time as they will struggle to get the desired players during the latter stages of the transfer window, resulting in a potential panic buy.

The Red Devils have a squad that has thoroughly failed to adapt to Amorim’s style of play last season. The disastrous campaign ended with United in 16th position in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final.

Meanwhile, United’s restrictions on finances are due to their inflated wage expenses and frivolous spending in the past. Numerous players that the club bought for an enormous transfer fee have failed to live up to expectations.

However, the German club just appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager, which potentially ends the interest. The falling out between Ten Hag and Sancho started the 25-year-old’s exit from United.
