Club now‘going all out’for Liverpool man–Slot connections re-established

Ajax are ‘going all out’ for Liverpool assistant manger John Heitinga, looking to pair him with Marcel Keizer as their new managerial duo.

That’s according to De Telegraaf, who report that the Liverpool assistant manager is now the number one choice for Ajax. This is being reported by multiple sources close to both trainers.

The duo are in pole position to replace Francesco Farioli and are open to returning to the Dutch club. Negotiations are underway, with Heitinga set to be the figurehead of the managerial team.

Both have previously been Ajax managers before, with Keizer appointed in 2017 and Heitinga fulfilling the role temporarily from January 2023 until the end of the season. They also worked together at Jong Ajax.

He was replaced by Maurice Steijn that summer and eventually went to England to be assistant to David Moyes and then Arne Slot at Liverpool. The Reds boss is a ‘common denominator’ between the two as he worked with Kaizer on his style of play during a time together at Cambuur.

Both will face a difficult task in replacing Francesco Farioli, but the pair are now the number one candidates, assuming Liverpool put up no roadblocks for Heitinga.
