Reason Mykhailo Mudryk is not in Chelsea squad for Conference League final

Mykhailo Mudryk will miss a 37th consecutive Chelsea match when the Stamford Bridge outfit play Real Betis in the Conference League final as the player's enforced absence continues.

However, he will reportedly attend the match at Wroclaw Stadium. The Athletic reports that Mudryk will be present in Poland.

The winger last played for Chelsea in late November, scoring a late second goal in their 2-0 win away against Heidenheim in the competition's league phase. The winger was then an unused substitute during the weekend's Premier League victory over Aston Villa but has not been in the matchday squad since that match on 1 December.

Sixteen days later, Chelsea confirmed that The Football Association had contacted Mudryk concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test. The player was provisionally suspended that month, and his case's outcome has yet to be made public during the six months since.

Chelsea's club statement at the time said: "Both the club and Mykhailo fully support The FA's testing programme, and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested. Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances.

"Both Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding. The club will not be commenting any further."

A month ago, the Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive, Sergei Palkin, claimed Mudryk passed a polygraph. "I have spoken to Mudryk many times since this doping issue arose," the CEO told GIVEMESPORT.

"He doesn't understand how it could have happened. He has no clue, no idea at all.

"So his lawyers organised for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. It will form part of the evidence showing he didn't intentionally do anything wrong.

"Mudryk has been clear; it's not his fault that he tested positive. We now need to find out how this has happened and who did this; his lawyers are trying to find out.

"There are still no results from the B-sample, so that remains open. Nobody knows what's happened.

"I wish Mudryk all the best. He's a top professional and a very good person; he should be protected."
