After plenty of speculation, Jorginho has formally confirmed that he’s saying goodbye to Arsenal this summer.
The midfielder’s contract comes to an end in late June, but reports suggest Arsenal are willing to terminate it early so he can join Flamengo at the start of the month. Flamengo are involved in the Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 15th.
Though the weekend game against Southampton certainly felt like a farewell, no one at Arsenal or Flamengo had officially confirmed anything before this week. But Jorginho took to Instagram to announce his exit on Tuesday.

“When I arrived at Arsenal, I wasn’t just joining a club,” Jorginho began. “I was stepping into a family. A team full of hunger, passion, purpose. I gave everything I had, every day, every match, not just for the results, but for this shirt, for the fans.
“Your support… it meant everything. Whether I was starting or on the bench, you made me feel valued, loved. That’s rare in football and I’ll never forget it.
“Now, it’s time to say goodbye, or maybe a ‘see you soon’. When a place feels like home, a farewell is never easy, but I leave with my head held high and my heart full.
“To my teammates, thank you for trusting me, for pushing me. To the coach, the staff, and the whole people behind the scenes, thank you for the support on the pitch, off the pitch, and for always being there for me with kindness and love.
“And to the fans, thank you for singing my name, for believing in me. Thank you Arsenal.”

Jorginho made 79 appearances for Arsenal in his two-and-a-half-year spell, having joined the Gunners from London rivals Chelsea.
The 33-year-old had struggled for consistent starts this season, and with Martin Zubimendi edging closer to joining, things weren’t going to get any easier in 2025/26.
A transfer back to Brazil makes sense, but as Jorginho suggests, it might not be farewell for good. There’s always the option for a return to north London someday in the future.
