Journalist Confirms La Liga Giants Have Had“Recent Contacts”With Man United Over Potential£40M Transfer

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford remains a transfer target for Barcelona, according to Relevo.com reporter Matteo Moretto.

Writing on his X account, Moretto said that Barca have revived their interest in the 27-year-old, having considered making a move for him prior to his loan switch to Aston Villa:

“Barcelona have had recent contacts regarding Marcus Rashford. He’s a player that both Deco and Hansi Flick really like, and he already had opportunities to wear the Barça shirt in January. It’s a track that’s still alive.”

Although Villa do have the option to sign Rashford on a permanent basis, it is now believed that he will return to Old Trafford at the beginning of July. He is unlikely to remain with the Red Devils, though, as he is not in the plans of head coach Ruben Amorim.

Barca’s manager has expressed his admiration for Rashford

Speaking about potential targets last week, the Catalan side’s head coach Hansi Flick publicly stated that he is a fan of the England international (in addition to Liverpool’s Luis Diaz):

“I don’t want to talk about players who aren’t part of my team, but they’re both fantastic players and I like them. We’ll see what happens.”

Man United have already set an asking price

The purchase clause included Villa’s loan deal is worth £40m and, while the Midlands club are set to hand Rashford back, the Red Devils are still expected to hold out for a similar fee if other teams make an approach for the player.

Whether Barca have the funds to spend that much on the winger, it is up for debate. Club President Joan Laporta has suggested that the La Liga champions are close to complying with the country’s FFP regulations and that should give them more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.
