Anthony Gordon thanked Newcastle United supporters 48 hours after the final game against Everton.
Anthony Gordon has suggested he will remain a Newcastle United player as he looks forward to “next season” at St James’ Park.
NewcastleWorld revealed last week that Liverpool are interested in the former Everton winger. There was speculation 12 months ago as the Magpies faced an agonising decision as the PSR deadline loomed.
Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh - arguably Newcastle’s best prospects - were reluctantly sold to avoid a Premier League points deduction. However, offloading Gordon was viewed as the “nuclear option” if needed - and Liverpool were keen.
Arne Slot admires Anthony Gordon
It is understood that Arne Slot admires Gordon and views him as the perfect fit for the left flank. The Reds are undergoing a summer shake-up as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are likely to depart.
Newcastle would command a huge fee given the 24-year-old penned a bumper six-year contract in October. Toon CEO Darren Eales was adamant earlier this year that they are not open to offers for their star players.
Anthony Gordon message to supporters
Many supporters picked up on Gordon’s body language at the full-time whistle on Sunday. Visibly frustrated, the winger was hooked at half-time as Newcastle trailed to his former club.
That capped off a disappointing campaign for the England international despite the Magpies enjoying their best season for almost a century. Highlights include goals in both Carabao Cup semi-finals with Arsenal but a petulant red card against Brighton meant he missed the Wembley showdown.
Gordon never hit the same lofty heights as he did in 2023-24 and it took him 48 hours to thank fans for their support. Writing on Instagram, the Toon ace subtly suggested he will be there next season.
“Achieved everything we set out and still got so much more to give,” Gordon wrote. “Thank you Mags for all the support in the ups and the downs. Looking forward to next season.”

Anthony Gordon message after signing Newcastle United contract
Gordon expressed his love for Newcastle and desire to win a trophy - which the club achieved five months later - after signing his recent deal. He said: "I just think the club's in a great place. Since the takeover it's just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play. I love it here.
"I'm very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me – and I'm here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy. Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team that finally does it is a massive goal of mine.
"We (my family) have always felt settled because Geordies are so easy-going and so welcoming, very easy to speak to and always want the best for you. It's a very easy place to come and live, I think. I feel very connected to everyone, teammates, fans and everyone involved."
