Leicester City are likely to be close to the profit and sustainability (PSR) limit again for 2024-25 following their recent charge by the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.
The Foxes were initially charged in March 2024 with a spending breach after reporting losses of £90million for 2022-23, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
However, it has been confirmed they will not face any punishment for their 2022-23 breach after exploiting a loophole in the rules.
Leicester have now been charged with an alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules for 2023-24 when they secured promotion back to the Premier League.
The Foxes have been referred to an independent commission, leaving them facing a potential points deduction following their relegation to the Championship.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Leicester could land an eight-point deduction if the case goes to a hearing.

Sources say the East Midlands side will be close to the PSR limit again for 2024-25 due to their heavy losses over the past few years.
Everton were previously handed two separate deductions – totalling eight points – in 2023-24 after being found to have breached the spending rules in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
Nottingham Forest were hit with a four-point penalty in the same campaign.
Leicester could sell players to avoid PSR blow
Leicester suffered a £72million hit in 2023-24 after their turnover fell from £177million in 2022-23 to £105million.
Meanwhile, their losses dropped from £90million to £19million across the same period.
The Foxes’ spending limit for the three-year cycle up to 2023-24 was £83million as the cap drops from £35million a season in the Premier League to £13million in the Championship.
The club could look to sell players before this year’s 30 June accounting deadline to improve their PSR position, but their historical losses will make complying with the financial rules a challenge.
