When Ruben Amorim agreed to become the Manchester United head coach in November, he never would have imagined such an appalling first six months.
This is something he has not shied away from, regularly calling out his team and himself. This included when Ruben Amorim named his Manchester United team the worst ever, with months of struggles.
The poor campaign has ended with United scoring a record low points tally and league finish in the Premier League era. Amorim warned fans that United would endure a storm after he won two and drew one of his opening three games.
However, following United’s final day 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Amorim told United fans that good days are coming, with the suffering this season meaning next season should be a whole lot better.
Amorim will benefit from Ineos’ planned United squad overhaul, which is expected to see Matheus Cunha join the club. Now, Jose Mourinho has thrown his support behind the man often compared with him.

Jose Mourinho backs Ruben Amorim to succeed at Manchester United
Mourinho is one of the best managers of the 21st century, and given his ties with United, hearing his stance around the club is always valuable. Mourinho won the League Cup and the Europa League with United before being sacked in December 2018.
However, now speaking with Sky Sports, Mourinho has unsurprisingly been asked his verdict on the job Amorim is doing at Old Trafford.
“They are supporting Ruben, they are giving him time and conditions to go forward.

“I read some quotes from him, saying that he is happy that he came and has already had these six months. When I went to Porto, this happened the same to me. I went in January and had a difficult six months. We were struggling to even qualify for the UEFA Cup, and then what happened two days after…”
Obviously, Amorim’s struggles are a lot more profound, but with a better striker, United probably finish mid-table despite the struggles. This is exciting for United, as if Amorim can turn things around and follow in Mourinho’s footsteps, the past six months will absolutely have been worth it.
Jose Mourinho helped Ruben Amorim with coaching badges
Amorim has already been a manager known across Europe for almost half a decade, which makes it easy to forget he is just 40 years of age and seven years ago was completing his coaching badges.
While Mourinho was United boss in 2018, Amorim visited Carrington to be mentored by ‘the special one’ for his badges.
Amorim completed an internship with Mourinho as part of his High Performance Football Coaching course, which gave the United head coach invaluable experience and tutelage from one of the game’s best.
Amorim has admitted he still asks Mourinho questions, and we are sure he will appreciate the support from Mourinho.
