It’s official: Lamine Yamal has put pen to paper on a new Barcelona contract, which will see him stay put until 2031 – and the intricacies of the deal, including how much the 17-year-old world-beater will earn, have been revealed by The Athletic.
Akin to Lionel Messi, Yamal’s stratospheric rise to superstardom has been a sight to behold. A La Masia graduate, what the winger – who boasts enviable trickery and poise when facing defenders – can go on to achieve is simply inconceivable.
And, as a result, Blaugrana higher-ups were keen to tie him down to a long-term contract. He last renewed his terms in 2023 (when he was a 16-year-old record breaker), but after stepping up to the plate for club and country, all parties were keen to extend his stay.

Flick: 'He is special. I've said before, he is a genius'
And extend his contract, and offer improved terms, they did. And it’s not surprising, either, given that Barcelona chief Hansi Flick has said: “He is special. I’ve said before he is a genius. During the game, when I looked at the match from the outside, you see all the details, and it is unbelievable how he does it.”
"For me the best thing is he keeps going strong. In the big games he keeps showing how good he is. I also think he enjoys the situation. I am really happy this talent that comes every 50 years, that he plays for Barcelona.”
A club the size and stature of Barcelona have plenty of players that are on eye-catching wages. The Polish talisman-in-chief, Robert Lewandowski, pockets £540,918-per-week while Frenkie de Jong’s weekly take-home sits around the £308,354 mark.

Yamal’s contract, which is active from the signing date rather than when the dazzling wideman – widely regarded as one of the best players in world football – turns 18 years old on July 13, is for a six-year period. He’ll be just 23 when his extension comes to an end.
According to The Athletic’s report, Yamal would become his side’s highest-earning player, ahead of the aforementioned Lewandowski and de Jong, should he meet all performance-related bonuses. And it’s certainly difficult to argue that he doesn’t deserve it.
Taking a closer look at what his wages entail, the total package of salary, bonuses and signing-on fee would amount to just shy of €40 million (£33.5m; $45.3m) on an annual basis pre-tax. As per Spain’s regulations, around 50 per cent of that would be paid in tax.
The report also states that Yamal’s future, despite interest from Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, was never in doubt as the Spaniard and the club, who both wanted a swift resolution, were keen to shut out any doubt and announce an extension.
In 2024/25 alone, the teenage phenom notched 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 outings across all competitions. No doubt an impressive return, what's impressive is that most of his best work – including his ability to slalom between opposition and fashion chances – is intangible.
