With the season over, FC Barcelona are busy planning their squad for the next campaign with some key strategic signings being targeted.

As has already been reported, Barça intend to sign a top left-winger, with Liverpool ace Luis Diaz being identified as the priority target.

Another position that the club wish to strengthen is the goalkeeper, with a move for RCD Espanyol ace Joan Garcia already in the works.

It must be noted that Barcelona already have two experienced shot-stoppers in Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny. Although the latter’s contract expires next month, the club have offered him an extension.

Barcelona will sign a new goalkeeper independent of Szczesny decision

Now, according to Alex Pintanel, Barcelona intend to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window regardless of what Szczesny decides with his future.

The 35-year-old veteran has yet to make a final decision on the club’s contract offer but reports on Tuesday suggested that he was leaning towards signing the renewal.

Now, irrespective of whether Szczesny stays or leaves, Barça plan on bringing in a new goalkeeper before the start of the next season.

That, coupled with the veteran Pole being willing to extend his contract, could mean that Marc-Andre ter Stegen could be shown the exit doors in the summer.

There have been growing concerns about the German tactician’s level and fitness, especially after his latest injury. Even though his contract expires in 2028, Barça might opt to move on from their captain.

Ter Stegen himself might seek an exit if he is no longer the No. 1, considering that he wants to secure the starting spot for the German national team ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Either way, it appears like there will be some changes in the goalkeeping department at Barcelona in the coming weeks.
