Humphrey Ker thinks 'fantastic player' will be with Wrexham for years unless he's 'signed by…

Wrexham have a number of quality players in their ranks, and a handful who could yet go on to become really top players in the game.

Wrexham’s squad is a mix of all kinds of players from all different backgrounds: there’s young players with bags of potential, and older players who’ve been there and done it all.

For the most part, Phil Parkinson seems to prefer having a side with more experience than youth, with Wrexham signing Jay Rodriguez in the January transfer window being a testament to that.

Whilst Rodriguez received mixed reviews from Wrexham fans, nobody can argue the job that Parkinson has done over the last few years, with his Wrexham transfer policy not looking set to change this summer.

There’s a number of players linked with Wrexham so far this summer and the majority of them are players with prior experience of the Championship, or even of the Premier League in the cases of Jamie Vardy and Tom Cairney.

Humphrey Ker shares his Arthur Okonkwo wish at Wrexham

One player who is one of the youngest in the side is Arthur Okonkwo. Wrexham signed Okonkwo on a permanent deal from Arsenal last summer and he’s since become a really exciting player in the ranks, proving himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the whole of the Football League.

And speaking in a recent interview with Amanpour and Company, Wrexham’s community director Humphrey Ker has revealed how he wants the 23-year-old Okonkwo to remain with Wrexham for many years to come, joking that Real Madrid could even sign the shot-stopper.

Ker said: “With Arthur, he’s a young player, he’s got unbelievable potential, he’s already a fantastic player. He’s someone that I think has a very long future with the club, if he so chooses, if we can hold on to him, if he doesn’t go and get signed by Real Madrid.”

Phil Parkinson convinced Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to sign Arthur Okonkwo

Everyone at Wrexham has seen first-hand how good Okonkwo already is, and how much potential he has for the future. Parkinson has known all along, too.

Speaking on a recent episode of Welcome to Wrexham, Parkinson revealed how he convinced Wrexham to sign Okonkwo, telling Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney that Okonkwo was one player they really needed to invest in.

Parkinson said: “I said to Rob and Ryan the one player who would be a huge investment for the club is Arthur. Of course, there’s going to be a number of clubs vying for his signature.”

If Okonkwo enjoys a strong season in the Championship next time round then we might see some really top team show an interest in the Englishman, who could quickly become hot property at the Racecourse.
