Everton boss David Moyes shows class with message of support after Liverpool parade crash

Everton boss David Moyes has extended his heartfelt best wishes, along with those of his squad, to the numerous individuals injured during Liverpool's Premier League title celebration parade.

Over 60 fans were injured, with 50 needing hospital care, after a Ford Galaxy vehicle careered into the throngs of supporters in the city centre rejoicing over the Premier League triumph on Monday.

Everton had previously shown unity with those impacted and called for public assistance in the Merseyside Police's inquiry into the tragic event. Scottish boss Moyes has now joined other prominent city figures in speaking out after the appalling events.

In a statement issued by Everton on Wednesday morning, Moyes remarked: "I was shocked and saddened by the deeply distressing scenes that unfolded following Liverpool's victory parade in the city centre on Monday.

"On behalf of all my players and staff, I'd like to pass on my heartfelt best wishes to all those who were injured and affected, as well as their families and friends.

"I would also like to pay tribute to the first responders and all of the emergency services. One of the things that makes this city special is the solidarity between the people, who always come together in times of hardship. We always stand together in the most difficult times."

Police have detained a 53-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while unfit through drugs.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Detective Chief Superintendent Karen Jaundrill provided an update, asserting: "I want to reassure the public of Merseyside that detectives are making significant progress as we seek to establish the full circumstances that led to this awful incident and bring the person responsible to justice."

Moyes had attended the LMA Awards on Tuesday night, which Arne Slot skipped before the Liverpool boss sent a message over the incident.

He said: "As you will know, a shocking incident took place in Liverpool, one that left dozens of men, women and children who had attended our parade injured, and as a result I have had to withdraw from the event out of solidarity with all affected.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it is one that I feel is absolutely right given the seriousness of the situation. I hope that I have your understanding in this regard."

Ex-boss Jurgen Klopp said: "The most beautiful face for a long time: the parade was incredible, the mood was incredible. And from one second to another, everything changed and we learned again there are more serious things in the world than football.

“Thoughts and prayers go to the injured people and their families as well. I don’t know how and why it happened but we know what happened and that’s very bad.”
