Chelsea now look very unlikely to sign one goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.
There is a belief among Chelsea‘s rivals that Robert Sanchez could be sold before the start of the 2025/26 season.
The 27-year-old is currently the Blues’ first-choice shot-stopper, so his potential departure could leave the club needing to sign a new No.1.
However, their list of possible candidates to replace Sanchez may have just become a bit shorter.

Gregor Kobel set to remain at Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for a while now.
Last December, it was claimed that Chelsea were looking at Kobel. However, it does not look like the 27-year-old will be joining Enzo Maresca‘s side this summer.
According to Sport Bild, despite Chelsea interest, Kobel’s people have told Dortmund that he is not going anywhere when the market opens and a transfer is definitely “off the table”.
It means the Blues will have to look elsewhere if they want to bring in a new goalkeeper ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Conference League finalists do seem to have other options. It has been reported that Mike Maignan is actually Chelsea’s top target for the goalkeeper position.
He is about to enter the final year of his contract at AC Milan, so there could be a deal to be done. Because of his contract situation, the Frenchman is also likely to cost less than what Chelsea would have had to pay for Kobel.

How much Chelsea were willing to pay to sign Gregor Kobel
Chelsea seemed very serious about signing Kobel at one stage. It had been rumoured that Chelsea were willing to pay £58m for Kobel‘s signature.
A lot has been said about the team’s goalkeeper situation, but having finished the season strongly, perhaps Maresca may just decide to stick with Sanchez.
The Spain international managed to keep clean sheets in Chelsea’s final two Premier League games.
