“Nélson knows we want him” – Vítor Pereira speaks about Wolves renewal efforts, and replacement need

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has insisted that they’ve made their efforts to renew Nélson Semedo.

[A Bola cover comments](https://www.abola.pt/futebol/noticias/nelson-semedo-no-benfica-vamos-ver-o-que-acontece-2025052811392114182?utm_campaign=abola-page-post&utm_content=article-fresh&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_term=cde-twitter-fresh-articles-1203) from the Wolves manager today as Semedo’s future at Molineux remains to be determined.

The defender is out of contract this summer and yet to decide on his next steps after five years at the club following a €32m move from Barcelona in September 2020.

He’s made 182 appearances for the club since but has been linked with clubs across Europe this summer as he prepares to be a free agent.

Wolves are keen to keep him as they plan for a brighter future under Pereira, who has led them away from relegation troubles this season.

He would like to keep hold of the 31-year-old if he can and has made that clear in his latest comments to A Bola.

_“Nélson knows very well that we want him, he is our captain, a player who helped me a lot to unite the group, on the field and off the field, he is a quality player,”_ he said.

_“He knows that we want him, I think the club has already made an offer for him, let’s see what happens.”_

If Semedo does depart, it will leave Wolves with another position they need to fill in the coming months.

The summer is already gearing up to be a busy one, with Matheus Cunha seemingly on his way to Manchester United. The Brazilian will leave a huge hole to fill, and Pereira believes it will be a similar situation with Semedo.

_“I never worry about losing him, what I worry about is finding players, because if someone of quality leaves, we have to bring in someone of quality,”_ he added.

_“I hope that Nélson stays, but if he leaves, we have to find someone with quality. He probably won’t be a player to be captain, because he’s just arriving, but he’ll have to be a player who guarantees us quality and competitiveness.”_
