Leeds United hold £59m transfer advantage over rivals in summer window

Leeds United hold a financial advantage over their fellow promoted sides going into the summer transfer window, as all three teams prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Promotion back to the top tier of English football often means that teams need investment in the summer transfer window to be able to make the transition a successful one. Leeds, along with Burnley and Sunderland will look to avoid the fate of the last six teams to win promotion to the Premier League, and be relegated in their first season back.

Daniel Farke is expected to be backed in the transfer window with Leeds already linked with several players. It is reported that the Whites could be handed a budget of more than £100million over the summer .

Who will be at the club by time the first Premier League game of the season comes around is still to be seen. But that reported budget is set to be spent on entirely new players - that’s not the case with both Burnley and Sunderland.

The two clubs may have their summer transfer budget hit with obligation to buy clauses in loan deals. The most eye catching of those is a reported £19.3million fee that Sunderland will pay to make Enzo Le Fee’s loan move permanent.

For Burnley, they have four players who are set to make their loan deals permanent this summer. Jaidon Anthony will cost £8million, while Zian Flemming (£7million), Bashir Humphreys (up to £14.7million) and Marcus Edwards (£10million) are all set to join on a permanent basis.

Those deals alone add up to a total of £39.7million, which is likely to be a big part of the transfer budget. It means that Sunderland and Burnley combined have already committed £59million in the transfer window.

For Leeds, both Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell do not have permanent obligation to buys included in their loan deals. Decisions over if Leeds will bring them back to Elland Road are yet to be made.

It’s understood that Leeds are keen on making Solomon’s move permanent , but they face competition from French giants Marseille. There is also a chance that Tottenham could look to reintegrate him into their squad over pre-season.

For Leeds, work will be going on behind the scenes to make sure that the squad is in the best possible shape come the start of the Premier League season. The more wiggle room Leeds may have compared to their rivals could just give them the upper edge.
