Championship fixtures release date and new time as Leicester City learn what lies ahead

Leicester City are set for a busy summer as they look to build a squad that can challenge for an immediate return to the top-flight after suffering relegation to the Championship for the second time in three seasons.

They could also have to do it while also appointing a new manager, with Ruud van Nistelrooy's future at the King Power Stadium increasingly uncertain amid speculation that sacked Southampton boss Russell Martin could be in charge next season.

Whoever is in charge, they will have their work cut out with Leicester facing the prospect of a points deduction for breaching top-flight spending rules, while players will need to be sold to ensure there is no further infringement when the next set of club accounts are examined.

With the season only officially ending on Sunday, full details of Leicester's pre-season plans are still unknown, but the club has confirmed its retained list, while the summer transfer window opens on Sunday.

After that, the next significant date is Thursday, 26 June, when the EFL fixtures - and City's road map for their 2025/26 campaign - are announced. However, there is a major change this year.

Traditionally, the fixtures for the upcoming season have been released at 9am, but this year it will be at midday.

Later that day, at 4:30pm, clubs and their supporters will find out the first round draw for the Carabao Cup, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News.

The first round of Championship matches are due to take place over the weekend of 8 to 10 August, with Carabao Cup first-round ties following in the subsequent week.

According to the EFL, the planned 46 rounds of Championship matches will be spread over 33 weekends, nine midweeks and four Bank Holidays.

2025/26 Championship teams: Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Derby County, Hull City, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Norwich City, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Preston North End, Queen's Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Stoke City, Swansea City, Watford, West Bromwich Albion, Wrexham.
