‘Brutally honest’: Jason Cundy names the Chelsea player who just hasn’t impressed him this season

Ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has given his honest verdict on one player at his former club.

Chelsea‘s attackers have had a pretty inconsistent season, which includes Cole Palmer. The 23-year-old started the campaign strongly, but his form started to tail off in the second half of it.

Nevertheless, in the eyes of Moises Caicedo, Palmer is still a “spectacular” footballer.

Jadon Sancho is another forward at Chelsea who has blown hot and cold, leaving his future in west London in doubt.

Jadon Sancho has not convinced Jason Cundy

Some insiders think Sancho will stay at Chelsea, but the possibility of the Blues paying a penalty fee to get out of their agreement to sign him from Manchester United permanently remains.

Cundy is not sure if the winger has done enough to be bought, stating that he has been “unconvinced” with his performances.

Speaking about Sancho on talkSPORT, he said: “I’m not convinced. I’m unconvinced if I’m brutally honest. I don’t know the exact financial agreement, but I believe there is a penalty — whatever you want to call it — fee for him to go back to Manchester United.

“Has he done enough? It’s not a lot, 25 million, is it? It’s not a lot of money. I don’t know whether I’ve seen enough.”

Chelsea fans may not have to wait too long for a decision on Sancho’s future. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sancho’s situation will be sorted after the Conference League final.

The Blues take on Real Betis on Wednesday night in a game that Sancho could start. It could prove to be his final match in a blue shirt.

Jadon Sancho’s stats do not warrant permanent deal

Focusing on Sancho’s numbers alone, he has probably not done enough to earn a permanent move to Chelsea.

The 25-year-old has only managed to score three goals in 31 Premier League appearances this term.

Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea numbers Appearances Goals Assists

Premier League 31 3 4

Conference League 7 1 5

FA Cup 2 0 0

Total 40 4 9

With that being said, £25m is really not a lot of money, while there is no reason why Sancho cannot improve.

He is still in his mid-20s and is a versatile attacker, capable of playing on both flanks. He could be a good squad player to have next term, but if Chelsea do not want to keep hold of Sancho, the England international can probably not have too many complaints.
