Liverpool is looking to do a deal for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz this summer and Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are among those admired too.
But what else does Arne Slot need from what could be a big summer window? In part, that will depend on exits, but signing a number nine was another position that appeared to be a clear priority.
Wirtz can play up top as a false nine — and Diogo Jota will hope to have a more consistent season next year compared to this one — but getting another striker in could be a good idea. Darwin Nunez is expected to move on with interest from Saudi Arabia.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool will try to sign a number nine as well as snapping up Wirtz. It suggests that the Reds won't look to do one or the other, but will aim for both.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike is one player being linked with a move, with Sky Germany even claiming today that talks have begun for the Frenchman. Chelsea is also keen on him.
In terms of the forward line, Luis Diaz is sporadically linked with a move to Barcelona. Meanwhile, claims from Germany this week pointed to Bayern Munich being keen on Cody Gakpo.

Add in Jota's injuries and inconsistency, Nunez being likely to depart, and Federico Chiesa having been a bit-part player since he arrived, and there are a fair few question marks for Liverpool in that department. Mohamed Salah, at least, is a certainty to stay.
Slot has tended to like having two players in each position. But when it comes to the Liverpool forward line, replacements and succession planning will depend on how Wirtz is viewed. As a number 10, he falls almost halfway between a midfielder and a forward on paper, though he could do a bit of both.
If his primary role is going to be the position that Dominik Szoboszlai plays at the moment, then Liverpool would definitely need another number nine. If Wirtz is to play as a false nine, assuming Jota doesn't depart, that might not be required.

It is shaping up to be a fascinating summer for Liverpool, and as ever, there are plenty of moving parts. Slot himself even suggested in a recent interview with the BBC that he couldn't predict who might ask to leave.
"I think another question is: 'Does a player that doesn't play that much want to stay at a club where he's not playing that much?'," he said.
"I always say that to be on the bench for one season is already difficult. To not play a lot two seasons in a row is almost impossible, so it's not only what I want, it's also what the player wants."
As the summer takes shape, there are a few directions Liverpool could go in attack. The first thing is to finalize a deal for Wirtz.
