Manchester City are set for a very busy transfer window.
The Premier League giants rested on their laurels last summer after winning four league titles in a row, and that came back to haunt them throughout the 2024/25 campaign, as Pep Guardiola’s men would end the season trophyless.
The Manchester club will not repeat that mistake this year as Man City are keen to add four or five new faces to their squad in order to return to competing at the top of the Premier League.
Both full-back roles are areas of the pitch Guardiola is keen to address ahead of the new season, and the Spanish coach has just learned that one of his top targets has opted to join a Premier League rival.

Milos Kerkez agrees to Liverpool move
Guardiola is keen to add a new left-back to his squad this summer, and it was reported last week that Man City were genuine contenders for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, who is valued at £45m.
However, Liverpool were viewed as the favourites, and it seems the Hungarian star has decided to make the move to Anfield ahead of the new season, with the left-back already saying yes to the move, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Club-to-club talks are underway to get the deal over the line, and at this stage, it would take something unexpected to stop the transfer from happening.

This is a blow for Man City as not only are the Manchester club missing out on one of their targets, but City are now seeing one of the best left-backs in the Premier League joining one of their biggest rivals.
Guardiola has several other names on his list to address his issues at left-back, and it remains to be seen who Man City move for, as they don’t have plans to use Nico O’Reilly in the role again throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

Other left-backs on Man City’s transfer list
When it comes to left-backs, Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso seems to be Man City’s top target for some time now, as the Italian can play both full-back roles, which is a trait Guardiola is a big fan of.
It remains to be seen if the Manchester club revive their interest in the Italian from January, and if they don’t, Man City could move for Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The left-back has been one of the best in the Premier League in his position this season, with the 23-year-old producing four goals and seven assists across 37 English top-flight matches.
Full-backs have always had a key role in Guardiola’s teams, and whoever City bring to the Etihad Stadium, they could have a major part to play in how the Manchester club get on next season.
