After years of serving as Liverpool’s dependable second-choice goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher appears increasingly likely to depart Anfield this summer.

The 26-year-old has made his desire for regular first-team football clear, while Liverpool’s transfer plans have all but confirmed his future lies elsewhere.

Liverpool’s decision to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £25 million, with the player set to join in the summer of 2025, has effectively signaled the end of Kelleher’s time at the club.

Speaking at Anfield on Sunday after the title ceremony at Anfield, Kelleher confirmed that he is working on a move away from the Reds:

“It’s really special. Nice atmosphere today with the whole crowd and I made a few appearances this season so it’s nice to win something at the end of the season,” Kelleher said.

“I’ve said it before, I feel like I’m a number one and I think I’m good enough to play week in and week out.”

“That’s what I’m looking to do. This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games, but it’s definitely something I’m looking at,” the 26-year-old confirmed.

Now Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has reported that Brentford have made an approach for the Republic of Ireland international:

“Brentford have approached Liverpool over signing goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher – as Bayer Leverkusen close in on Mark Flekken [current Brentford No.1].”

“The west London club are open to selling Flekken to the German club, who have just appointed Erik ten Hag as manager, and discussions are also underway to that end.”

“Brentford have been interested in Kelleher since before they signed Flekken but Liverpool have only been open to selling him since securing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer.”

“Kelleher is understood to want to compete for a number one place and the arrival Mamardasvhili means it is the Georgian who will be competing with Alisson next season.”
