Jets' Garrett Wilson Predicted to Lead NFL In Receiving

Over the last three seasons, only nine receivers recorded 1,000 yards in each of the past three seasons. The most impressive name on the list, considering situation, is New York Jets star Garrett Wilson.

Wilson has been plagued by some of the worst and most inconsistent quarterback play in the NFL during his three year career. In spite of that, Wilson has tallied 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns in three seasons. Wilson is just one of 22 players in NFL history to hit those marks in his first three NFL seasons.

Wilson is now reunited with his college quarterback, Justin Fields. Wilson has been very outgoing to the press about his excitement to be reunited with Fields. The two will already have plenty of chemistry heading into the season, something Fields has struggled to have with former Jets starting quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.

ESPN's Ben Solak compiled a list of 100 things to watch for the upcoming NFL season, and that pairing made the list of something to monitor. Specifically under Solak's "intrusive thoughts" category, in which he makes a bold prediction about Wilson's upcoming season.

"Here is a list of things I believe" wrote Solak.

"Garrett Wilson is the best receiver Justin Fields has played with in his NFL career.

Wilson is the WR1 with the biggest gap in quality between him and his WR2 in the entire league.

Wilson has played mostly on hard mode (a lot of press coverage, downfield routes, contested balls, etc.), and new coordinator Tanner Engstrand will prioritize getting him easier targets.

"As such, I have a nagging suspicion that Wilson will lead the league in receiving yards in 2025," he surmises.

This past season, Ja'Marr Chase led the NFL in receiving yards en route to winning a triple crown, with 1,708 yards. It was the lowest mark for a receiving leader since 2020, the second lowest mark being 1,799.

A 1,700 yard season from Wilson would be quite the uptick in production, but certainly a welcomed one for a Jets offense that has struggled to move the ball for the better part of a decade. Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are hoping the Buckeye connection can unlock another level in Wilson, who has shown he has the talent to compete with the best receivers in the league.
