Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes react as Anthony Gordon drops hint on Newcastle future

Anthony Gordon endured a strange season at Newcastle United.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Gordon established himself as one of Newcastle United‘s best players.

Newcastle paid around £45million to sign Gordon from Everton and, frankly, that now looks a bargain.

Indeed, Newcastle now value Gordon at around £100million, but it must be said that the England international isn’t coming off the best of seasons.

The 24-year-old scored nine goals while registering seven assists in 42 games. The season before, those figures stood at 11 and 15 respectively in 48 outings.

It was hardly a disaster season for Gordon but surely few would doubt he rarely looked at his best. There are mitigating factors of course, having returned to pre-season late after Euro 2024 before struggling with injuries during the course of the campaign.

Still, transfer talk has again emerged. Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in Gordon, who took to social media following the end of the 2024/25 season.

He played just over an hour against former club Everton on the final day of the Premier League season. Newcastle lost 1-0 at St James’ Park, though still reached the Champions League anyway after finishing ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference.

Gordon said he was “looking forward” to next season in a message to Newcastle fans, captioning a collage of images: “Achieved everything we set out and still got so much more to give. Thank you Mags for all the support in the ups and the downs. Looking forward to next season.”

Bruno Guimaraes was among those to reply, sending three love hearts in response.

Meanwhile, Sven Botman wrote: “Gordie” with a love heart also included in the message.

How Anthony Gordon feels about leaving Newcastle United this summer

Newcastle are confident about their PSR this summer, which would perhaps suggest they do not need to cash in on any of their top players.

Clearly, that doesn’t mean no one will leave as player trading remains important, but it seems the club are heading into this summer in a position of strength again.

For his part, Gordon is happy at Newcastle and only signed a new contract back in October 2024.

After a relatively poor season, the idea of cashing in on him may be tempting to at least supporters. However, Gordon’s quality can hardly be doubted, and the hope will surely be that next season brings the best out of him again.
