Jacob Wright has completed a permanent move to Norwich City after a productive loan spell at the Championship club. Wright dramatically opted for Carrow Road in the January window after being set to move to Swansea, and has now officially joined after a deal was struck with Manchester City.

As previously reported by the Manchester Evening News, the midfielder will go for an initial £2.3m. That has the potential to rise to £3m, and there are also sell-on and buy-back clauses included.

Wright made his senior debut for Pep Guardiola this season in the Carabao Cup game at Spurs, but did not get another opportunity to impress. The manager had made it clear that he wanted him to stay for the campaign, only for chances to disappear with the form of the team.

Keen on first team football, Wright eventually opted for Norwich in January and quickly felt at home, impressing supporters with his stylish play. Long before the season had finished, he was hoping to stay for longer.

"I'm really starting to build something nice at the club. I'm enjoying it. It's a good family club," he told local media in April.

"I'm really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we can get some better results next season if I am to stay. I'd definitely like to stay, hopefully.

"I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot game by game. I'm working as hard as I can in training every day. I'm pushing to try and get in the starting XI week to week. I feel like I'm improving as a player, both on and off the pitch. I'm really enjoying it.

"Any game time that I get here is a bonus. Obviously, I want to start as many games as possible, get as many minutes as possible. But whenever the manager wants to put me in, I'm going to come on and do my best."

Even with Norwich replacing manager Johannes Hoff Thorup leaving before the season ending and interim Jack Wilshere opting the leave, the Canaries have pressed ahead with a permanent move for Wright. Former Lommel coach Liam Manning, currently at Bristol City, has been linked with the vacancy.

City have generated useful money from extra clauses put into any transfers involving young players, and will cash in this summer on performance-related instalments inserted into Sunderland's move for Patrick Roberts in January 2022. The Black Cats were in the third tier at the time but will now pay the Blues £2m after reaching the Premier League.
