A look at the prize money on offer at the UEFA Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night as Chelsea take on Real Betis.
Chelsea are in Conference League final action on Wednesday night when they face Real Betis in Wroclaw, Poland. The Blues are fresh off the back of securing Champions League football for next season, finishing fourth after a tense final day of the Premier League campaign.
Enzo Maresca’s men will want to add some silverware to what has been a successful campaign, but Betis will be tricky opponents, with Manuel Pellegrini possessing plenty of experience in winning big games. Here we take a look at the prize money on offer to the winner of this game, as well as the prize money for the runner-up.
How much does the UEFA Europa Conference League winner win in prize money?
The winner of the EUFA Europa Conference League final will win £5.9million in prize money. The runner-up will take home £3.37million in prize money, adding to whatever prize money they have racked up for progressing through each stage of the competition.
A Europa League place is also available for the winner of the Europa Conference League, but it will not be in use this season. That’s because Chelsea have already qualified for the Champions League and Real Betis secured Europa League qualification through finishing sixth in La Liga.
What Enzo Maresca has said
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has said ahead of the final: “The Conference League is important, and it has been important since day one of the season. The reason why is because it is the competition we are in this season. We are in the Conference League, so for us, it’s the most important competition and we have to try to win.
“If we are able to win the game, it’s a good thing because we continue to build the winning mentality – and the only way to build this mentality is to win this kind of game. We have won many games this season, but it’s not enough. Sunday’s game is finished, and we are all happy, but tomorrow we must show the desire to win the game. I am not focused on winning this competition or trophy because my name will be there. For sure, I will be happy if we win, but I will be happy for the club and the fans, and because we can become the first club to win every European competition.”
What Manuel Pellegrini has said
Speaking ahead of the final, Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini has said: ”All things equal, I think we have the same chances of winning the game as them. We should not make the error of excess motivation. It would be easy to say Chelsea are favourites but I don’t believe it.”
Asked about Betis’ extra day of rest from their final La Liga game, Pellegrini added: “I agree that it’s an advantage. They have a tough game to get in the Champions League and they achieved it. To play Thursday and Sunday is normal and I’m sure that Chelsea will have recovered well this Wednesday and that they will be a tough rival.”
