‘Very clear idea’: Omar Berrada comments on Man Utd's‘prudent’ transfer plans, still wants to show ‘ambition’

Manchester United have plenty of work to do in this summer transfer window, and Omar Berrada is looking to get business done.

Manchester United’s Premier League season ended on Sunday as Ruben Amorim finished off with a victory.

United beat Aston Villa 2-0 but still 15th in the Premier League table.

Amorim and United were right back to it on Wednesday afternoon, though, taking on the ASEAN All-Stars at The Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

United inexplicably lost 1-0 to the ASEAN All-Stars, falling to a rather embarrassing defeat – even if this was a glorified friendly.

United take on Hong Kong on Friday afternoon, with Amorim no doubt looking for a response before his players head off for the summer.

Omar Berrada on Manchester United transfer plans

United face a huge summer and must invest in major additions to bolster Amorim’s squad.

Matheus Cunha is poised to join United after the Red Devils thrashed out an agreement to pay his Wolverhampton Wanderers release clause.

United will pay for Cunha in three instalments, paving the way for the Brazilian to complete his move to Old Trafford.

Cunha cannot be United’s only big signing of the summer, though, and Omar Berrada is hoping to get more business done.

Speaking to MUTV, Berrada admitted that United’s plans for the summer window have been in place for ‘many months’.

Berrada suggested that United had thought about potential transfers with Champions League football in mind, but United now have complete clarity after that Europa League final defeat.

Berrada noted that talks have been held between Amorim and Jason Wilcox, with United now looking to strike ‘prudent’ business, whilst still showing ambition.

“Yeah, I can’t talk about specifics but I can say we have been planning for many months now,” said Berrada.

“We were ready for all the different scenarios and now know what we need to do. We have a very clear idea where we need to invest in the squad to improve.

“So Jason [Wilcox], his team and Ruben [Amorim] have been in talks, as I said, for many months. Now it’s a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but, at the same time, with ambition,” he added.

Manchester United facing very busy summer

Cunha would be a great start to the window, but other attacking additions are required.

United have agreed terms with Liam Delap, but the Ipswich Town attacker is weighing up his future.

Other clubs – such as Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle United – have also spoken to Delap, and hope to win the race themselves.

United also fancy Bryan Mbeumo and have held exploratory talks over a move for the Brentford forward.

Amorim could put together a new front three of Cunha, Mbeumo and Delap, but must still explore additions in goal and in central midfield.

Sales will be key to boosting United’s budget, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony primed to leave.

Alejandro Garnacho has been told to move on, with United clearly expecting a frantic summer in the hope of turning Amorim’s side around next season.
