Rival football fans have clashed on the streets of Poland ahead of the Europa Conference League final.

Chelsea and Real Betis fans are fighting, with some even recorded throwing chairs at each other, in Wroclaw ahead of kick-off at 8pm.

The fighting began in some areas last night, with Polish media branding Chelsea fans ‘thugs’ and police using pepper spray.

Large crowds of Chelsea and Real Betis supporters have gathered in the streets, separated by armed police wearing helmets and carrying riot shields.

Since then, police have been forced to use a water cannon on supporters gathered in Wroclaw’s main square this afternoon.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said: ‘Zero tolerance for violence on our streets!

‘I thank the police for their decisive actions against the hooligans in Chelsea and Betis shirts in Wroclaw.

‘We warn you: if necessary, the police will be even more ruthless today!’

Flares have been set off within the crowds, sending blue or green smoke into the sky, while supporters of both teams chant, sing, and drink together.

A pile of damaged chairs and tables have been left outside a cafe, after being stood on by rowdy football fans or used as improvised weapons.

About 70,000 fans of both teams were expected to descend upon the city for the final.

One photo showed a Chelsea fan with a bloody nose being attacked by a Betis supporter using a belt.
