Thomas Partey Contract Update: Arsenal "Confident" Amid Negotiations Over An Extension

Arsenal are reportedly “confident” that they can sign midfielder Thomas Partey to a new contract with his current deal set to expire in a matter of days.

The Gunners finished the season second yet again, and without any silverware. However, they did impress in both the Premier League and Champions League this season, and one reason why was Thomas Partey.

The midfielder was Arsenal’s fourth-best player this season according to average rating; he made 52 appearances both in midfield and defence, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He was a mainstay in Mikel Arteta‘s starting XI.

After four years at the club, Partey’s contract is due to expire in June, however, reports have emerged that the Gunners could sign him on a short-term deal.

According to HandofArsenal on X: “Arsenal are now in the final round of talks to renew the contract of Thomas Partey. Short term deal is on the table with a variable wage structure. Negotiations have gone very well and now both camps are now confident of reaching an agreement.”

There has been reported interest in the midfielder from both the Saudi Pro League and La Liga, however, it now looks as though he could be staying at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.

Partey deal puts less pressure on Zubimendi transfer

News of a potential contract extension for the Ghana international comes as Arsenal look very close to securing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The Spaniard has a £51m release clause, and reports have been running since the start of the year, saying that the Gunners will sign him this summer.

However, if they manage to secure Partey even on a short-term deal, there will be less pressure to get a deal for Zubimendi over the line, and less pressure on the midfielder to instantly make an impact if he does sign.
