Manchester United are poised for a dramatic squad overhaul this summer following a nightmare 2024–25 campaign.
Club CEO Omar Berrada has sparked optimism among fans, revealing that behind-the-scenes planning for this summer’s rebuild has been in motion for months.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “Yeah, I can’t talk about specifics but I can say we have been planning for many months now.
“We were ready for all the different scenarios and now know what we need to do. We have a very clear idea of where we need to invest in the squad to improve.
“So Jason [Wilcox], his team and Ruben [Amorim] have been in talks, as I said, for many months. Now it’s a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but, at the same time, with ambition.”
United already snapped up highly-rated youngsters Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Ayden Heaven during the January window.
Underperforming stars Marcus Rashford and Antony were shipped out on loan, signalling a clear change in direction.
Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is now firmly on United’s radar, with a deal reportedly progressing well.
The Red Devils are also eyeing attacking reinforcements in the form of Brentford’s star Bryan Mbeumo and rising English striker Liam Delap.
United must tread carefully in the market, constrained by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
This financial reality means blockbuster moves for elite strikers like Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen appear out of reach, especially without the pull of European football.
The pressure is now on Berrada, Wilcox, and other INEOS executives to mastermind a successful yet cost-effective rebuild.
Berrada, who spent over a decade in key roles at Manchester City, was instrumental in turning the blue half of Manchester into a dominant footballing force.
United fans will hope he can replicate that magic at Old Trafford and usher in a new era of stability and ambition.
