Brentford now make their move to sign player who Leeds United have already asked about this summer - journalist

Leeds United can pretty much consider their chances of a deal for this Illan Meslier replacement as over, and the Whites have Brentford to thank.

Illan Meslier certainly needs replacing at Leeds United this summer, after the Frenchman’s miserable second half of the 2024/25 season.

He was making mistakes throughout the campaign but it all got too much for Daniel Farke and the fans in the March, when Meslier was dropped for the run-in.

Now, it looks as though Leeds United are about to sell Meslier in the upcoming summer transfer window, leaving Farke in need of one or even two new goalkeepers for the 2025/26 Premier League season.

And there have been a handful of goalkeepers mentioned with a summer move to Elland Road too, though none seem as though they’re very close to signing right now.

Nor does anyone at all: Leeds United have a growing list of transfer targets and despite the summer transfer window opening on June 1st, there are no reports of an immediate arrival at the club.

Brentford make approach to sign Leeds United transfer target Caoimhin Kelleher

One name mentioned with a move to Leeds this summer is Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher. Throughout the 2024/25 season it was reported that Leeds United were interested in signing Kelleher and now with Liverpool signing a new goalkeeper in Giorgi Mamardashvili, Kelleher looks nailed on to leave.

Speaking recently, Kelleher said he’s ready to leave Liverpool and determined to be a no.1 goalkeeper somewhere else. But that somewhere else might not be Leeds United with reports that Brentford have now made their move to sign the 26-year-old this summer.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

Previously, we revealed that Leeds United have enquired about signing Kelleher this summer. Liverpool are understood to be asking for around £30million for the Republic of Ireland international, who is out of contract next summer.

The latest on Leeds United’s search for a new goalkeeper

The race for Kelleher has long looked like a difficult one for Leeds United, with more and more teams joining the race: just recently it was revealed that Aston Villa are interested in signing Kelleher as well this summer, so Farke might now need to move on to other targets instead.

Aaron Ramsdale remains a target for Leeds United and he’s available for a £25million buy-out clause following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League, though there’s nothing to suggest that the Whites are about to activate his relegation clause.

More recently though, reports in Sweden claimed that Leeds United are still interested in Noel Tornqvist at Mjallby. The 6’6″ shot-stopper was linked with a move to Elland Road in January and is now understood to be available for just £1.5million this summer.
