Crystal Palace boss makes public Marc Guehi statement as Newcastle interest builds

Marc Guehi has again emerged on the radar at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United transfer target Guehi has just won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace but that does not mean he won’t be leaving Selhurst Park this summer.

Indeed, Newcastle are interested in signing Guehi again and their position has been strengthened since the summer of 2024, when they failed to land the 24-year-old.

Unlike last summer, Newcastle are confident they are in a strong PSR position and will of course now have the added bonus of being able to offer targets Champions League football.

Palace won’t sell Guehi cheaply but are under a relative amount of pressure this summer if they are to extract something approaching maximum value. The defender will be out of contract in 2026 and there has so far been little indication he will extend.

It means the Eagles face a decision. Either sell this summer or risk losing him for free. Asked about his star players, Palace boss Oliver Glasner gave an interesting answer.

Oliver Glasner says Crystal Palace won’t sell all of their best players

Having impressed this season, Palace have seen their key players being linked with moves away.

Senior Crystal Palace figures expect Guehi to leave but Glasner insists the club won’t be letting all of their leading assets leave this summer.

They won the FA Cup and are preparing for a Europa League campaign next season, so naturally do not want to see their squad ripped apart.

Speaking at a public event covered by Sky Sports, Glasner said: “I don’t want to comment on individual players.

“We could talk about Marc Guehi, Dean Henderson, Adam Wharton, Jean Philippe-Mateta and Ismalia Sarr, who had an incredible season for us.

“We won’t sell all of them.”

Marc Guehi has shock option if he wants to reject Newcastle United

Hopefully, Newcastle finally land the defender this summer.

Howe wants Newcastle to sign targets quickly, which is perhaps a natural reaction from a manager who hasn’t seen a first-team signing made since the summer of 2023.

Still, just because the club may be in a position to spend doesn’t mean they’ll actually land their targets.

Signing Guehi looks difficult to do. Indeed, Real Madrid want to sign Guehi, and could move for him when his contract expires next summer.

Beating that kind of competition will not be easy…
