Newcastle now eyeing blockbuster move to sign £350,000-a-week star - insider

Newcastle are showing interest in a potential summer move for Manchester City forward Jack Grealish, former scout Mick Brown has claimed.

The Magpies have reportedly earmarked the England international as a potential reinforcement for Eddie Howe’s frontline, although his hefty wage demands remain an issue.

Grealish, who earns £350,000 per week at the Etihad Stadium, is unlikely to accept a pay cut if Newcastle come calling for his signature, as he still has two years left on his current deal.

The 29-year-old attacker is believed to have no shortage of suitors ahead of the market reopening next month, with Serie A strugglers AC Milan also considering a potential swoop.

He is not part of Pep Guardiola’s plans anymore

Brown, speaking to Football Insider, has revealed that Grealish is likely to depart Man City this summer as he is no longer in Pep Guardiola’s plans for next season:

“Newcastle have been considering a move for Grealish. That’s definitely a move I can see happening when the window opens.

“Eddie Howe wants to strengthen this squad because they’ve not been able to spend much in recent windows, and he would add quality and experience to the team.

“I think it’s a move that would suit him if they can offer him more regular football.

“It looks like he will be leaving Man City, he’s not going to be part of Guardiola’s plans.

“So a move Newcastle could allow him to keep playing in the Champions League and in the Premier League if they can get it done.

“The only problem there is his wages, and whether he’d take a cut to move to Newcastle.”

Grealish, who joined Man City from Aston Villa for £100m in 2021, has struggled for regular game time this season, making just 16 starts in all competitions, seven of them in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old forward was even left out of the matchday squad to face Fulham last weekend, marking his fifth absence from City's last six top-flight matches.

Grealish made 32 appearances for Man City in total this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

The 39-cap England international netted just one Premier League goal this term, in the 2-0 home win over Leicester City in April.
