Around two and a half hours after a car drove into the Liverpool city center during the club's parade celebrating the Reds' 20th league title, star Mohamed Salah posted a photo of himself on X lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield.
While likely pre-planned and pre-scheduled, the Egyptian international faced a slew of messages explaining how the timing was in poor taste. At some point on Tuesday, Salah took down the post from his account.
Merseyside police arrested a 53-year-old man from West Derby deemed to be driving a Ford Galaxy, only able to enter the closed-off Water Street after following an ambulance through a temporary opening. 79 people were harmed in the event, and over 27 were hospitalized, including multiple children. Seven remain hospitalized.
"I'm pleased to say that the number of people in hospital is reducing as they continue to recover from the awful incident," said local Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson in a statement.
Shortly after the incident, Liverpool released a statement. “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street, which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening," it read
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”

Salah returned to X for a post on Wednesday, posted a split image of himself kissing the Premier League trophy with another of him wearing a crown. This one received plaudits from most of the comment section and Liverpool public.
2024/25 was a season full of trophies for Salah. In addition to capturing his second Premier League crown, the winger captured the league's Player of the Year honor, Golden Boot as the top scorer, and was the league's leader in assists.
Salah tied the all-time Premier League record for the most goal involvements, leveling former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer's mark with 47. He looked poised at one point to become the country's first 30-goal, 20-assist player, but a poor run of form in April ended such allusions.
To top that all off, Salah signed a new two-year extension with the club after a slew of rumors suggested he would sign abroad following the end of his contract this summer.
He sits fifth on the Premier League's list of all-time scorers with 186. Salah would level former Tottenham striker Harry Kane for second on the list with a 27-goal haul next season.
