Man United jetted out to Malaysia just hours after their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday (25 May) for two post-season games.
The Red Devils will play ASEAN All Stars on Wednesday (28 May) before taking on Hong Kong in the country’s new national stadium on 30 May.
United’s games in Asia will soften the financial blow of missing out on Champions League qualification by losing against Tottenham in the Europa League final.
However, post-season tours have proved controversial with some figures in football – with Kieran Trippier and Gareth Southgate among those to take aim after Newcastle travelled to Australia shortly after the 2023-24 campaign ended.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Man United are likely to repeat the feat throughout next season in an attempt to make up for lost revenue.
‘Man United will squeeze in extra commercial friendlies’
Borson insisted United will lose around £100million in revenue after failing to qualify for European football in the 2025-26 campaign.

He expects the Red Devils to “squeeze in some extra commercial games”.
Borson told Football Insider: “With matchday plus the prize money from Uefa, you’re looking at about a £100million loss of revenue.
“They will probably somehow manage to squeeze in some extra commercial games.
“So, if you look at what they’re doing this season with these two end-of-season games that are generating let’s say £10million, they are probably more likely to do that next season as well just to mitigate some of the damage that’s done.
“They may lose £70million from profit, maybe £60million. But it’s a very substantial hit of at least £100million to the top line, but it’s mitigated slightly further down the profit and loss account.”

However, he is expected to come under pressure at the beginning of next season if results do not improve after he is backed in the transfer window.
United finished 15th in the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign after Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in November.
