Arsenal striker target speaks out on his future

Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko has spoken out on his future, suggesting he’s not guaranteed to leave RB Leipzig and revealing what it would take to get him to do so.

Benjamin Sesko is one of two options Arsenal are expected to pursue in the centre-forward position this summer, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres the other.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United was seemingly a potential target if Newcastle missed out on Champions League football. With the club achieving qualification on the final day, that door is now closed.

Leipzig have concluded their competitive campaign, but they’re currently in Brazil for a post-season friendly against Santos on Wednesday night. Ahead of the game, Sesko spoke to the media about his future.

“The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It’s a great club to develop at,” Sesko said. “I’m currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I’m taking it day by day. If a transfer happens, and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t.”

Sesko added that he wants to “play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me. That’s the most important thing for me.”

The 21-year-old striker scored 21 goals and assisted six in 45 appearances for Leipzig this season, and he’ll want to be playing just as regularly with his next club.

Arsenal already made an attempt to sign Sesko last year, but at the time he turned the offer down and opted to spend another season in Germany.

The Gunners do have one significant lure ahead of Leipzig this time around, as the German club have failed to qualify for any form of European football this season. By contrast, Arsenal will be involved in the Champions League in 2025/26.

David Ornstein suggested last week that Arsenal appeared to be still in the process of making a decision over whether to target Sesko or Gyokeres this summer. It’s time to make that call and move forward with a deal now.
