Longtime Patriots captain, two-time Super Bowl champion will retire

David Andrews has called it a career.

The New England Patriots announced on Wednesday that David Andrews will hold a retirement press conference on Monday, June 2 at 3:30 p.m.

The longtime Patriots captain was released by New England in March after spending his first 10 seasons with the organization.

Andrews was a staple to the Patriots offensive line for a decade. He won two Super Bowls and provided a veteran presence whether the Patriots were atop the AFC East or at the bottom of the standings.

The 32-year-old was contemplating what he wanted to do after his release. And while Andrews believed he still had football left in him, starting over somewhere new was something he wasn’t sure he wanted to do.

I don’t know if I wanna play,”Andrews said in Weymouthduring “The Draught Party” — a cancer research benefit hosted by Boston Herald reporterDoug Kyedin honor of hisdaughter,Hallie, who died of cancer in 2024. “I don’t know how much I have long left in me to go somewhere else and start over.”

Andrews was an important piece to the Patriots offensive line for a decade. But the team has undergone a lot of changes since Mike Vrabel was named coach, which included the decision to part ways with the veteran center.

The 2024 season was a trying one for Andrews. He was limited to just four games before landing on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. Andrewswas hopeful to return to New England in 2025, but his time came to an end after a 4-13 season.
