£60m Arsenal target named in Opta's PL Team of the Season after 387km covered and over 1000 off-the-ball runs

Arsenal are set for a busy summer on the transfer front as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his ranks in pursuit of Premier League and Champions League glory.

Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is on Arsenal’s radar this summer. Indeed, it has been reported that Arsenal have been progressing in talks over Mbeumo.

Thomas Frank has already said Mbeumo can leave this summer, but Arsenal will need to be mindful of other Premier League sides joining the race.

Indeed, Newcastle United are said to be preparing a move for Mbeumo – so Arsenal can’t waste any time in stealing a march on the Cameroon international.

Some of the statistics Mbeumo has registered this season should make the Gunners sit up and swoop for him before it’s too late.

Arsenal target Bryan Mbeumo excels in goals, work-rate and pace

Bryan Mbeumo has made the Opta Premier League Team of the Season and, aside from his ‘exceptional output in front of goal’, he excelled off the ball too.

In terms of his tally of off-the-ball runs, Mbeumo was the only player to get into quadruple figures, registering 1,037 runs – almost 100 more than his nearest competitor.

Mbeumo also covered 387.6km in the league this season, putting him third behind Daniel Muñoz (389.5 km) and Bruno Guimaraes (420.0 km).

In addition, Mbeumo ranked third for total sprints (870), and he made the top spot for off-the-ball runs made at sprinting speed (389).

Arteta likes his players to give their all on the pitch, so Mbeumo’s work-rate would be absolutely perfect for him, while his pace makes him an even bigger threat.

And going back to Mbeumo’s goal tally, he is only the third Brentford player to reach 20 in a top-flight season.

This is a record shared with Ivan Toney (20 in 2022-23) and Dave McCulloch (26 in 1935-36, 31 in 1936-37 and 26 in 1937-38).

‘With bags of pace, energy, creativity and a wicked left foot, Mbeumo was a big player in a season that culminated in Brentford finishing in the top half of the Premier League for only the second time,’ added the Opta site.

How much Arsenal would have to pay for Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo is a proven Premier League player who has shown he has what it takes to shine at the highest level and, at 25 years of age, he’s only just heading into his prime.

However, Mbeumo is not quite as expensive as one would expect for a player with such impressive traits.

It has been reported that Brentford value Mbeumo at £60million and, considering how he has shown he can regularly deliver 15-20 Premier League goal contributions per season, it’s not tremendously high.
