After both the Thunder and Timberwolves lit up the scoreboard on Monday night, a number of players on both teams strike us as solid options for Game 5 player prop bets.
While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams stole the show for the Thunder with 74 combined points on 26-for-54 FG shooting, OKC's Chet Holmgren and Minnesota's Jaden McDaniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Donte DiVincenzo all finished with 20-plus points as well.
Tonight, we recommend taking Holmgren to have another solid scoring night, and we're also banking on another good night as a passer by SGA.
Chet Holmgren Over 16.5 Points (+108 at FanDuel) -- 1 unit
Holmgren has quietly been a major matchup issue for the Timberwolves, and it's no coincidence that he played 30-plus minutes in each of the last two competitive matchups in this series (excluding Minnesota's romp in Game 3).
Holmgren is taking full advantage of all the defensive attention that SGA (and to a lesser extent, Williams) are drawing, and he was able to throw down four dunks in Game 4 as the Wolves scrambled to deny SGA and Williams
He also knocked down two three-pointers and a third jumper from just inside the arc on Monday night, and he should continue to get quality looks in Game 5.
Going back to OKC's Western Conference Semifinal matchup against Denver, Holmgren has played 30-plus minutes five times in the last nine games. That includes two of OKC's last three games in the Western Conference Finals, as Thunder coach Mark Daigneault seems to have recognized that against Minnesota, Holmgren is a better option than Isaiah Hartenstein at center.
The latter is coming off a playoff-low 15:33 of action in Game 4 after posting a plus-minus of -31 in Game 3.
Assuming tonight's game is close enough for Holmgren to once again play 30 minutes or more, he's a great bet to score at least 17 points. He's reached that number in six of the seven games this posteason when he's logged 30-plus minutes. In fact, he has averaged 19.7 points per game in those contests.
Holmgren, for anyone looking for a high-upside play tonight, is available at +230 at FanDuel to score 20+ points.
S. Gilgeous-Alexander o7.5 Assists (+105 at bet365) -- 1 unit
This one is not exactly an "outside the box" play, but it's nevertheless a solid bet based on SGA's passing numbers in this series.
Let's start with the fact that in three competitive games vs. Minnesota in the WCF, the '24-25 MVP finished with 9, 8 and 10 assists. After a 40-point night in Game 4, and with the Wolves' season on the line, expect them to make him beat them as a passer tonight, as he's made it clear all season that no one in a Minnesota jersey can singlehandedly contain him.
In case his assist numbers aren't enough to convince you, SGA's potential assist stats in this series are also worth a look. His 10-assist night in Game 4 was plenty impressive, regardless of the context, but he was also credited by NBA.com with 15 potential assists, which shows that he/the Thunde left some meat on the bone.
For the series, SGA is averaging 13 potential assists per game, which shows that his average of 8.3 assists could be signficantly higher with better shooting by the OKC supporting cast.
