It's already clear who Arne Slot's new assistant at Liverpool will be - opinion

Liverpool are set for a summer of change, both on and off the field, with new rumours emerging left, right and centre.

Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong are on the cusp of confirming their Liverpool moves, while Luis Diaz is still finding himself as one of Barcelona’s priority transfer targets this summer.

At the moment, it’s unclear how different the Anfield outfit’s first team is going to look next season, but as well as on-pitch changes, there seems to also be some movement behind the scenes which is far from ideal.

Liverpool have been one of the most dominant teams in England this term, and with all the changes that are set to take place, it’s unclear whether they’ll be as strong next term.

Especially if John Heitinga does choose to pack his bags and take up the managerial role at Ajax.

Marino Pusic will likely be Arne Slot’s next assistant manager at Liverpool

Marino Pusic is almost certainly a name that most people outside of the Netherlands will have never heard of.

During Slot’s time in charge of Feyenoord, Pusic was the Dutchman’s right-hand man.

However, he didn’t follow him to Liverpool as he was offered a managerial role at Shakhtar Donetsk, which he accepted instead.

However, after a poor run of form, Pusic has been let go by the Ukrainian outfit, which opens the door for Slot to swoop in.

The Liverpool manager did try and prise him away from Shakhtar upon his arrival in Merseyside, but he chose to stay put.

Indeed, Heitinga’s departure isn’t confirmed just yet, but with Ajax vying for his services, it’s hard to see why the former Everton defender would turn down the chance to manage his own team.

Thiago Alcantara could be another option for Arne Slot’s assistant manager at Liverpool

Should Heitinga leave his post and Pusic either turns down Slot’s offer again or isn’t even offered the chance by Slot, the Reds will have to have other targets on their mind.

Thiago Alcantara is a player who has an affinity with the club due to the time he spent under Jurgen Klopp, and seeing as though he’s recently retired and gone into coaching, he could be an ideal fit for Slot.

Thiago Alcantara’s Liverpool career in numbers.

Although the Dutchman didn’t manage the Spaniard, his experience would be worth its weight and the fact that the players already have a decent relationship with him would allow his integration into the squad to be seamless.

Indeed, these are all just ifs, buts and maybes at the moment, but should Heitinga leave his post, it’s unlikely that Liverpool will be short of options to replace him.
